About

Almost everyday in Today.az there is something about journalists being in prison or fighting a court case. In 2005 a journalist was killed and there has never been a full investigation or charges laid.  Recently another journalist received death threats.  It goes on and on.  In May 2008 the Minister for the Interior said, “Democracy does not imply that a person may hold meetings wherever and however he wants”.

There is an election in October 2008, but without freedom of the press it is a farce.

I record these news articles as evidence of the open abuse of journalists that goes on in Azerbaijan.  Ironically one cameraman is highly honoured as a fallen victim, when filming the 1993 massacre of Azeris by Soviet troops (sadly mostly Azeri).
